Overview

Pokémon has accompanied me since I was 6. My first game was Pokémon Yellow. I guess my parents bought it because they saw I liked the anime, so they chose the one that had Pikachu on the box art. I was so young that I often didn't understand what I had to do, so they had to help me. But even then, I loved it.

Seeing that, they kept buying me Pokémon games. Sometimes they were the latest releases, while other times they were second-hand games from previous generations. To be honest, I was happy to get as many as possible because that way I could complete the Pokédex. It was also a great way of replaying the "same game" without having to delete my save from my main game of each generation.

The last games they bought for me were some of the Nintendo DS releases: Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Dash. To me, that was a golden age, as the franchise explored many different ways of presenting the same world. But it was also my last one, given that my parents decided I was too old for that. Too old for playing games, but not old enough to have my own money to keep buying them. That age.

Regardless, my sister, who knew I still liked gaming, bought me a flash cartridge so I could play them. Is it bad? Maybe. But it also kept my love for the franchise alive and well, besides getting me hooked on many others (Animal Crossing, Zelda, etc.). So, as soon as I started earning my own money, I went back to buying Pokémon games, starting with Pokémon X. And I still do.

Lately, I haven't been following the latest news as closely. In part because it feels like they don't put as much love into the games as they used to. It's not that they've changed or that the graphics aren't realistic. It's about the final result feeling janky or not adding many new mechanics. I still like playing them, but now I pick them more carefully. That said, I'd love to play PokéPark. If I ever buy a Switch 2, it'll probably be because of it.

With so many years of playing Pokémon and so many opportunities to try different games, I have a pretty long list I could write about. Instead, I'll dedicate separate pages to the specific installments that are special to me.

For the rest, I've prepared these provisional lists (the shrine is still under construction!). In the future, I'll decorate them to look like game cartridges and add short comments for each one. Even if they won't get a dedicated page, I think they still deserve to be here. Maybe other people will discover them this way!
