Tamagotchi

Tamagotchi characters are life forms that live on "Tamagotchi Planet", a planet far away from Earth. After their discovery on Earth in 1996, millions of Tamagotchi characters have been raised by people across the world.

Eating great food, and playing many games...The Tamagotchi characters have grown to love the Earthlings who fill them with so much excitement.

Although Tamagotchi characters are a bit selfish at times and sometimes accidentally poop in the room, the days spent with Tamagotchi characters are full of smiles.

Strange and quirky, yet adorable...They will need your care, but will "grow" to be a big part of your everyday life.

It's been decades since I got my first Tamagotchi. And it wasn't even mine, but my older sister's. As far as I know, the one that ended up using it the most was me by a long shot lol

Ever since, I grew fond of virtual pets in general, but Tamagotchis will always have a special place in my heart for being the ones that introduced me to the genre. For many years I only had that first device. I remember I got later a similar one with animals, one of the many copies that came out afterwards, I suppose. I still enjoyed it a lot, even if it had some bugs with the time settings. Such cute critters!

I remember carrying my tama everywhere I went except for school, giving it to my mother until I got back home. I also have the vague memory of managing to keep a tama alive for almost a full month, but it died while I was at school. I didn't even get angry; it was impossible to take care of them with how often they got sick at that age. But I'd still try, not understanding that the code itself was designed to make it impossible past a certain age. Oh well, childhood things. Still impressed at my younger self for that feat, because as an adult my best was 21 days and felt pretty proud of it.

Anyways, the thing is that I kept coming back to that first Tamagotchi from time to time over the years while trying out other forms of virtual pets. Mainly videogames, and most of them pirated, but the ones I liked the most were my Furby, Nintendogs and Chao Gardens. And you know what? Those were the ones that weren't even pirated. Guess my parents didn't buy me every new thing that came out, but when they got something, they nailed it haha

Years later, around 2021 or 2022, I started to notice all the new devices that were in the stores. So many that I couldn't even pick one, so I got none until my first Tamagotchi started to have problems with the buttons. Afraid of potentially breaking it for good, I got one of the Gen1 relaunches, and that was when I started to try the newer versions as well, now that it's my own money. Years seeing them as a child and finally able to enjoy them.

So here I am, creating this shrine for them to share my experience and love for them. And maybe even some guides and other stuff that I find cool. Who knows what will happen with this page? For now, here's a timeline focused on the devices I have. Maybe I'll add the rest once I create the pages for these. Enjoy!

1996

Original Tamagotchi (Gen 1)

This was the original Tamagotchi, released in Japan in Novemeber 1996. My love for virtual pets started with it, and I kept rebooting it over the years until the buttons started to fail. So many tamas raised in it!

2017

Original Tamagotchi (Gen 1 R.)

This relaunch came out in 2017 as part of the 20th anniversary. I didn't notice at first, not to mention I already had my original device, but when that one started to break, discovering this relaunch was such a great joy for me!

2017

New Species Discovered! (Gen 2 R.)

This second generation was released originally in 1997 and was pretty similar to the original tamas. Same as with Generation 1, a new release was launched in 2017, but in this case the relaunch is the only one I got.

2023

Tamagotchi Uni

The Tamagotchi Uni was the first modern device I tried and got me super excited. It's probably why I decided to start this shrine in the first place, as it added lots of great experiences on top of the fond memories I had from the original.

2025

Tamagotchi Angel (Gen 3 R.)

The two original tamas got various themed versions around 1998, most of which didn't make it outside of Japan. The Tamagotchi Angel was one of the few that did, and got its relaunch in 2025, which is the one I got.

Tamagotchi Paradise

After trying the Uni, I realized I loved both the old and modern styles of tamas and this one caught my eye while I was still hooked on the Uni. It's been sitting there, waiting for me to "finish" my Uni tama logs before booting it for the first time.
